Club Django Toronto has been active on the Canadian Jazz scene for over 18 years and is Toronto’s longest-running, gypsy swing band. Gypsy jazz was started in France, by guitarist Jean “Django” Reinhardt known for combining a dark, chromatic Gypsy flavour with the swing articulation of the period.
Founded by André Séguinot, rhythm guitar, André is the only member of the band to have seen Django Reinhardt perform. Abby Shozberg on double bass, has played in almost every genre imaginable. Tony Oldhand, also rhythm guitar, brings an in-depth knowledge of the gypsy jazz world. John Farrell on lead guitar, interprets the formidable genius of Django Reinhardt with virtuosic flair. Gerry Duligal playing piano accordion, brings an interest in everything from Bach to Bacharach and a fascination with European accordion styles. Classically trained violinist Rodion Boshoer, brings a sound that expresses his Russian roots and the influence of his work with the Broadway production of Forever Tango. Wayne Nakamura, rhythm guitar. brings a tight rhythm that adds a large element of the “swing’ factor to their music.
